For at least 29 years hardy and/or foolish locals have jumped in the lake at the stroke of noon on New Years Day. The Polar Bear Plunge has become a fun way to start the new year, for the participants and the spectators. Sanders Beach on Lake Coeur d'Alene was covered in snow and the outside temperature was barely 20 degrees but that didn't deter the determined.
